Address
Jinhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Province
Description

The Jinhae Gunhangje (Naval Port) Festival takes place from March 26 ~ April 4, 2005 for 10 days in Jinhae-si. Jinhae is colored pale pink by hundreds of thousands of cherry trees that line the streets every spring.

The festival, which originated from a memorial event in 1952, has been held annually to remember the patriotic spirit of Admiral Yi and promote the local festivities with the blossoms in full bloom since 1963.

From the starting of the opening ceremony, this festival offers a variety of events such as a traditional Korean-style chess contest, air-show, cherry blossom photo contest, memorial services of Gunhangje (Naval Port) and congratulatory parade for general Yi Sun-shin.

The parade for Admiral Yi Sun-shin, which is held by the six-hundred man marine band, honor guards and the National Classical Music Institute, is the highlight of the festival.
